Coles was a team captain for the football team and had a 4.2 GPA. He also had many offers from colleges to join their football teams, but coaches and teammates said he had decided to play at Lamar University.

For the event on Wednesday, people are encouraged to bring red, black, and white balloons.

The shooting happened Saturday night in the 4900 block of Fieldwick Lane.

Coles had been attending a large party at a rental house.

A car then drove by the location with several people inside. They fired at the house and shot Coles.

He was later taken to a hospital, and he died.

Investigators are looking for the suspects who killed Coles. They have not released a description of the suspects or vehicle.

Defensive Coordinator Garrett Cross knew Coles for six years and said he was a great person.

“He just did everything right,” Cross said. “He took care of business off the field. He never got in any trouble. That’s what we all hope for when we raise our own kids. We want them to grow up to be guys just like him.”

On Wednesday, KPRC 2 will livestream the balloon release in this story.
