HOUSTON – Rodeo Houston icon Leon Coffee is stepping away from being a barrel man and clown after 31 years, but he said he will continue to be a part of the event and carry on with his mission to make people happy.
“My rodeo career in Houston is the highlight of my career. Not everybody can get a really good rodeo. But, when you get them it takes a lot to keep them,” Leon said.
He will take his last barrel ride on Sunday.
But, he will still be part of the rodeo and be making people laugh.
“The good Lord put me on the earth to do two things, and that’s help people out and make people happy. I could do them both right there in the ring, but he didn’t say I couldn’t do it outside of it,” Leon said.
He has enjoyed being a part of the rodeo because it is a big collaborative event.
He also talked about his performances and how he would focus on connecting with the audience.
“I try to have a relationship with every person in this building… I want a relationship with everybody because fans are what build this,” Leon said.
He is also looking forward to still being a part of the rodeo in the fan zone and spreading joy in Houston.
