HUFFMAN – A small business owner is lucky to be alive after a brutal, bloody attack in his own front yard over the weekend that ended with the family’s beloved Weiner dog being stolen.
18-year-old Shawn Allen Goodson has been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. As of this writing, a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
A little after midnight on Sunday, Goodson arrived at the business owner’s house blasting loud music, according to court records.
“I told him to turn his loud music down in not such a polite way on my property,” Huffman Auto Repair & Performance Owner Jeremy Lott said.
What followed came as a huge surprise, Lott said, because Goodson has known his son for years.
“He just beat me over my back, in the back of my legs and just kicked me and punched me and dragged me around my yard by my hair and pulled my hair all out of my head,” Lott said. “All the time he’s beating me, he’s just threatening to ... kill me,” Lott said. “I was telling God, thank you for the life I had up until that point.”
Goodson allegedly used a wooden beam to beat Lott repeatedly. Lott didn’t know why Goodson showed up at the time, but according to court records, Goodson had texted Lott’s son earlier in the night “asking him if he wanted to get drunk with him because he had a bottle of liquor.”
The attack left him with a broken arm, bloody back, and missing chunks of hair. A neighbor heard Lott screaming for help and ran outside in her house slippers, she said.
“I grabbed my little niece’s pink T-ball bat,” Haley Lea said. “I put it just like this and even hiked my leg, and I went, ‘bing’ and hit him square in the head.”
That helped Lott break free of Goodson and finally catch his breath.
“I’m glad I was there to help because that man was literally murdering him in his front yard,” Lea said. “I’m a child of God. And I always say I’d like to be a vessel. That’s what I was that day.”
Lott and his family said they believe her actions may have saved his life.
Goodson soon left but is accused of stealing Coco, one of the Lott family’s two beloved Weiner dogs.
“He used every piece of leverage he had and everything that he knew about me to make it even more traumatic,” Lott said.
Lott spent several hours in the hospital on Sunday. During that time, he said Goodson texted his son asking for a $300 ransom to return Coco. Goodson eventually brought Coco back while Lott was hospitalized, he said.
Lott’s broken arm has left him struggling to complete basic tasks at his mechanic shop. He hopes to return to full capacity but he doesn’t have medical insurance, he said, and he’s having a hard time finding an orthopedic surgeon who will accept him as a self-pay patient.
“Can’t work with one arm, and I just need some help with my arm. I need a doctor,” he said.
While Goodson is still at large, Lott said it will be difficult for his family to find any peace of mind. He wants him off the streets.
“It’s been very traumatic for ... everyone involved,” he said. “We don’t know what’s going to happen or what could happen. We’re scared.”
Prosecutors filed paperwork asking for Goodson’s bond to be set at $30,000. Any tips on his whereabouts can be reported to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
