Women’s History Month: KPRC 2 hired the first female sportscaster in the country given exclusive access to players ⚾🏈🏀

When it comes to groundbreaking achievements in Houston’s history, you HAVE to include KPRC 2 in the conversation.

We’ve been trailblazers from the very start.

KPRC 2 made a historic move back in the 70s when we hired the first female sportscaster in Houston.

Anita Martini, a trailblazer in sports broadcasting, set the stage for countless women in the field.

Martini broke barriers as the first female reporter given access to men’s sports locker rooms back in 1974.

What set her apart was her genuine passion for connecting with players on a personal level beyond their athletic ability.

Martini passed away in 1993.

Funeral attendees remarked on Martini’s courage, enthusiasm, and tenacity, qualities that earned admiration regardless of one’s interest in sports.
