9-year-old boy killed in backyard swing set accident in Liberty County

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – A 9-year-old boy was killed after a swing set he and other children were playing on tipped over in Liberty County.

According to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, it happened Saturday in the 100 block of CR 5263B, south of the Plum Grove community.

The sheriff’s office said the boy was playing on the swing with other children at a family gathering. The swing was held by a chain to an A-frame structure.

While the children were playing on the swing, the A-frame started to tip over. The boy tried to get out of the way but was hit in the head by the corner of the structure.

Family members administered CPR to try and save the boy, but the child died after the accident.
