HOUSTON – A Houston Police Department officer is recovering in the hospital following a crash Sunday night on the Katy Freeway.
It happened a little before 10:15 p.m. when the officer found a car stalled in the second lane of the feeder road and blocked two lanes with their emergency lights on.

An unidentified driver in a BMW was taking the Katy Freeway exit and tried to swerve, to avoid hitting the officer’s patrol car but hit both the stalled vehicle as well as the officer.
KPRC 2 was told that two people were inside the stalled vehicle and were taken to the hospital to have their injuries examined. Meanwhile, the officer reportedly had a gash to the back of his head and was bleeding. While he remained conscious and was able to walk on his own, the officer was rushed to Memorial Hermann Katy.
The BMW driver did not show signs of intoxication, police said, and was cooperating with officers. They did not suffer any injuries from the crash.
No additional information was shared, as of this writing, so it’s unclear if that driver will face any charges.
This is a developing story and will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
