The Galveston Police Department tracks incident reports on the National Incident Based Reporting System.

Police Media Relations Specialist, Kurt Koopmann, says they have also implemented DDACTS, or Data-Driven Aapproaches to Crime and Traffic Safety.

DDACTS is a law enforcement operational model which uses location-based data in targeting areas that have shown higher concentrations of traffic incidents and crimes.

Koopmann says additional time and data is needed to determine if DDACTS is a possible contributing factor to the decrease in crime.

“We would need to look at several months, or one year, compared to before to see if there is a sustained decrease going forward,” he said.
