Speaking at a separate scene Sunday, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez spoke on the incident and said the nanny’s actions likely prevented the incident from being even worse.
Gonzalez said it appears the nanny pushed the wagon aside at the last possible moment and likely prevented a direct impact from the vehicle on the toddlers. Gonzalez said while the toddlers did sustain serious injuries, it appears they will survive and are both in fair condition.
“They’ll have some recovery time, but it looks like they’re going to pull through,” Gonzalez said.
Sheriff Gonzalez said the nanny will also survive her injuries.
Authorities on Saturday said the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision stayed at the scene. While the driver reportedly showed no signs of impairment, speeding is believed to have played a role.
