Free document shredding event in NW Houston

Comerica Bank and Iron Mountain are teaming up to offer free, secure shredding of sensitive paper documents on April 6, at Comerica’s Mangum Banking Center located at 2201 Mangum Road. The event, known as Shred Day Houston, will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., an hour earlier than previously scheduled.

You might be wondering what kind of documents you can take to shred.

Feel free to bring the following:

  • Documents that contain sensitive information (name, address, social security number, account numbers, etc).
  • Documents that include utility invoices, bank statements, medical records, credit card offers, and tax documents older than seven years.

You are not required to remove staples, fasteners, or anything attached to the paperwork. Individuals, small businesses, and nonprofits are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to securely dispose of their sensitive documents. However, attendees should refrain from bringing moldy or wet paper, 3-ring binders, clips, hanging file folders, electronic storage media (thumb drives, CDs), liquids, plastics, or trash. It is recommended to retain any original documents that cannot be recreated digitally.

Shred Day Houston aims to raise awareness about identity theft prevention, promote recycling, and support Houstonians facing hunger. The event serves as an opportunity for the community to contribute to a worthy cause while safeguarding their personal information.

“We are seeing a lot of check fraud, believe it or not, it is not just digital these days,” said Comerica Bank Houston Market President, Jason Baker. Watch more in the video below.

In addition to document shredding, the event will support the fight against hunger by collecting cash and credit card donations, as well as nonperishable food items for the Houston Food Bank. The donations will help replenish the food bank’s supplies.

Since its inception in 2013, Shred Day Houston has securely destroyed and recycled over a million pounds of paper, providing close to 360,000 meals for individuals in need.

Why Shred?

Shredding documents is essential for protecting employee and customer information, maintaining compliance with regulations, and fostering customer confidence. By securely destroying unnecessary paper documents, businesses can safeguard sensitive information, save time, reclaim office space, and ensure compliance with legal requirements. Shredding also contributes to decluttering offices and maintaining confidentiality, ultimately benefiting both businesses and their clients.

Iron Mountain Houston Operations & Transportation Manager, Steven Willey said it only takes seconds for one of their trucks to shred wads of papers. Take a look at the process in the video below.

Shred Day 2024 runs 8AM through 3PM, today, Saturday April 4 at Comerica’s Mangum Banking Center, 2201 Magnum Road, Houston 77092.
