These storms will need to be watched as they continue to move off to the north.
On Tuesday, our threat for severe weather has increased.
Here is what we know.
Monday severe threat
As I mentioned, storms have already begun firing along the warm front just north of Houston. A tornado watch has also been issued for out northern counties to account for the threat posed by these storms.
This warm front will be the focal point for thunderstorm development Monday. As it continues to lift north, storms, including some supercells, will fire up and move toward the north and northeast.
These storms will carry the potential of all severe hazards, including large hail, damaging winds, and the potential for a few tornadoes.
Most of the models keep the storms just to the north of the immediate Houston area along the warm front. Counties such as Montgomery, Walker, San Jacinto, and Polk will need to be on alert for the threat of severe weather.
We will also need to watch just in case any storms try to develop closer to the Houston metro, further away from the advancing warm front. This may or may not happen, but any isolated storm would also need to be watched for the potential of becoming severe.
Tuesday severe threat
The severe threat for Tuesday has increased near the Houston area. A level 3 enhanced risk now encompasses areas near and just to the north of Houston.
Tuesday morning, models show most of the storms along the warm front draping from northeast Texas and back into central Texas.
The models don’t show it, but there may be some storms fire south of the warm front closer to the Houston area. If this happens, we will need to watch for all severe hazards throughout the day Tuesday.
Several clusters of storms should develop and move off to the east Tuesday afternoon. These storms will have the potential of producing severe weather as well. The environment will be capable of all severe hazards. A tornado potential will also exist and given the potent atmosphere, a strong tornado is not out of the question if any storms are able to fully tap into the energy available.
Wednesday severe threat
By Wednesday morning, a cold front will be advancing toward the Houston area and a line of storms will develop to the west. These storms could definitely pack a punch as they move through.
Just like Monday and Tuesday, all severe hazards will be possible with the storms early Wednesday morning along with very heavy rain.
Thankfully, once the storms pass on Wednesday morning, our severe weather chances are done as the cold front moves through and pulls all the rain and storms with it.
