Dickinson community rallies together to clean up after destructive storm

DICKINSON, Texas – The Dickinson community is working to clean up after Tuesday night’s storm left the area in disarray.

The Galveston-area city didn’t face the intensity of a tornado, but strong straight-line winds scattered trees and branches across neighborhoods and even caused some people to lose power.

Perla Villanova woke up to see her fence overwhelmed with tree branches. Her shed was turned on its side. A tree nearly hit their home while they were sleeping.

“I was in this room with my baby and the tree almost hit the window. I was scared,” Villanova said. “It was pretty bad because I was asleep and then it woke me up… It was sounding like it was hail.”

The damage is relatively minor, but it can still be a major inconvenience for the community.

“It’s really scary, because it just happened and it’s the last thing we expected,” Arianna Campos, a Dickinson resident said.

The city manager told KPRC 2 that crews have been working since midnight to get everything cleaned up.

He also added that residents can leave debris and limbs on the curb, and they will be picked up later this week.
