Mother arrested for abandoning children to go on cruise

A Houston woman has been arrested and charged with child abandonment after allegedly leaving her two young children unattended for several days to go on a cruise.

Lakesha Williams, 29, is accused of abandoning her six and eight-year-old children in their Memorial area apartment on April 4. Concerned neighbors alerted law enforcement when they observed Williams leaving with luggage. Upon conducting a welfare check on April 9, deputies discovered the children alone in unsanitary conditions.

Authorities have charged Williams with abandoning a child with intent to return. Williams appeared in court, where her bond was set at $25,000.
