Walmart has issued an apology following backlash over a Uvalde-themed shirt sold in their stores.

The shirt shows the outline of Texas with the text “Where the heck is Uvalde, Texas?” across it.

Cross responded to the shirt in his caption, referencing the tragic events in Uvalde: “Oh you know, that town by San Antonio where 19 kids and two teachers were killed.”

In response to the backlash, ValleyCentral contacted Walmart, prompting the retail giant to swiftly apologize and remove the item from its shelves.

According to KXAN.com, Walmart emphasized its commitment to local communities, explaining that while the intention behind the shirt was positive, they regret any offense it may have caused.

“Our stores have always been central to the communities they serve, and our store managers have the ability to purchase merchandise that is locally relevant,” a statement from Walmart reads. “Though well intended, we apologize for any distress this item has caused.”

Cross’s social media post has garnered significant attention, with over 120,000 views.
