KPRC 2 helps Houston Food Bank deliver hundreds of food boxes to N. Houston apartments after days without power

HOUSTON – At KPRC 2, we work to get results. That’s exactly what’s been happening at a northside apartment complex we first told you about on Monday.

After days without power and weeks without hot water, people were forced to throw away food and, in some cases, much needed medicine. Within a matter of days, all that has changed.

After we did our original story, the power and hot water were restored but people were left with empty refrigerators. Thursday, hundreds of boxes of food made their way from the Houston Food Bank to the northside.

“We’re grateful, it’s just now it’s like starting over,” says Gaysha Milton who lives at the Palms on Rolling Creek apartment complex.

Four days after we did a report there, feelings of despair have turned to relief.

The lights are back on and the boiler is working, but that’s not all.

KPRC 2 reached out to the Houston Food Bank which didn’t hesitate to deliver hundreds of boxes of food.

“It’s the right thing to do, and it’s easy. I mean I get to spend an afternoon out here and it costs nothing of me, I think we need more people out there who are willing to do as opposed to just sit down and watch,” said student-volunteer, Michael Trencher.

The help not only much needed, but also appreciated.

“That’s the first step, so I appreciate it. And we thank you for coming. Thank you for putting our story out there,” Milton said.

If you or someone you know needs help getting food, you can contact the Houston Food Bank located at 535 Portwall Street by calling 713-223-3700.

We also want to mention that a lot of the people who live there need furniture and simple items like toiletries so if you can help with that, please reach out to Deven Clarke directly at Dclarke@kprc.com.
