HOUSTON – Pancreatic cancer is a tough opponent because it’s one of the deadliest cancers we face. Its symptoms emerge quickly, often delivering outcomes many families don’t want to hear.

Well-known faces like Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, actor Willie Garson, U.S. Representative John Lewis, and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg all fell victim to pancreatic cancer.
In Texas, more than 4,500 people will hear those dreaded words “you have pancreatic cancer” this year alone. Sadly, only about a quarter of them are expected to make it through, according to the Pancreatic Cancer Network, also known as PanCAN.
Amidst all the gloom around pancreatic cancer, PanCan tells KPRC it’s currently assisting 2,121 patients to put up a good fight.
To wage hope and help them in the fight, there is an awesome event happening on Saturday, April 27th at the Houston Sports Park called Purple Stride.
More than 1,700 people will participate in the Houston 5K race or 1-mile stride. Many of those family and friends will be honoring the 30 survivors in attendance and the many more who died from pancreatic cancer.
Those participating in Houston’s Purple Stride will help doctors like Dr. Suresh Chari of MD Anderson Cancer Center, who’s on the front lines, find a cure for pancreatic cancer.
