ARCOLA, Texas – An investigation is underway after the Mayor of Arcola received a “threatening package” on Tuesday that contained a noose and a message telling him to withdraw from the May 4 mayoral race.

Earlier today, Mayor Burton received a threatening package that included a noose and a message telling him to withdraw from the race. This threat is being treated with the utmost seriousness and the Arcola Police Department has requested assistance from the FBI in investigating this criminal act. The package, according to Arcola PD, included a noose and a sheet of paper that read, “Get out of the race now!!”
Mayor Fred A. Burton is seeking a third term ahead of the May 4 municipal election.
