Heavy thunderstorms pounded the Houston area Thursday and made their presence known with gusty winds, lots of lightning, and very heavy rainfall.
Some of the hardest-hit areas include Lake Livingston, Huntsville, Lake Conroe and the areas we’ve been watching all week along the East Fork of the San Jacinto River.

Huntsville saw over a foot of rain with a recorded 12.51 inches. Willis in Montgomery County was right behind that with 10.90 inches in the last 12 hours.
At Lake Conroe, over nine inches of rain fell with a reading of 9.28 inches.
Closer to Houston, Tomball picked up 7.76 inches of rain. New Caney also had just over seven inches at 7.12 inches.
The rainfall totals decreased as you approached town with Katy only getting 2.44 inches. Downtown Houston was even less at 1.52 inches.
Broader picture
Taking a broader look, our rainfall estimates shows what the readings also shows and that is unfortunately the same areas that got hit hard with rain Sunday night into Monday morning got hit hard again Thursday.
Walker, San Jacinto, and the northside of Montgomery Counties saw widespread instances of over eight inches of rainfall. This has contributed to the high amounts of water being released at both Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston and will continue to add to the problems we are already seeing on area rivers and creeks.
