CONROE, Texas – A Conroe restaurant is working to clean up and renovate after they saw several inches of water last week.
Vernon’s Kuntry Katfish restaurant located on 5901 West Davis Street was flooded on Thursday when owner Debbie Bowers said authorities issued the release of dam waters near Lake Conroe.
Bowers told KPRC 2 the restaurant went through something similar in 2017 during Harvey.
“We have amazing employees, amazing family, friends, community and they keep me smiling,” Bowers said.
Bowers said she wants the restaurant to get back up and running as soon as possible but she’s also worried about her employees, who have become like family.
“I’ve made a schedule for them to come and see me one on one to get their bills and see what their finances are like to make sure they are able to pay their bills,” said Bowers.
Bowers is also working with other businesses in the area to make sure everyone is taken care of.
“There’s a couple of people that have reached out to me, that have businesses that say we have some things to do at our business you can send some employees over there,”
The restaurant has since been gutted and crews are working to clean up the mess.
“The dining room should be done in about three weeks but the kitchen (will take) a lot longer,” Bowers said.
Bowers added that she is hoping to re-open in just a few weeks.
