HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2024. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.
Goose Creek Memorial High School knows how to throw an event! The school went all out to celebrate the accomplishments of senior Jennifer Monier Mendez, a student who was selected to receive the KPRC 2 Senior Scholarship.
Monier Mendez immigrated from Cuba when she was just ten years old. She told KPRC 2′s Anthony Yanez that she was proud of overcoming obstacles when she struggled to learn English. Now, Monier Mendez is ranked in the top five percent of her graduating class.
Extracurricular activities Monier Mendez enjoys include serving as president of both the Future Business Leaders of America and the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy. She is also an ambassador and Vice President of the Global Business Academy.
Monier Mendez volunteers her time making cards to cheer up children who are battling cancer. She has also created cards for her school’s custodial staff to show her appreciation for their work.
This fall, Monier Mendez will attend the University of Texas to study Business Management and Accounting.
