Last week, TNT Sportscasters Charles ‘Chuck’ Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal dissed the city of Galveston after the New Orleans Pelicans got swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Chuck and Shaq spent part of their show trashing the Pelicans, saying that they may as well start planning their summer vacation after such a tough loss.
Cancun was thrown on the table as the best possible place for the players to go. Then, they quickly changed their minds by suggesting a more modest option closer to home.
“We’re not even gonna send them to Cancun. We’re gonna send them to Galveston, where that dirty-@%$ water be washed up on the shore,” Barkley said. “We not gonna send y’all to Cancun, y’all drive your @%$, y’all quit. Drive your @%$ down to Galveston. We sending their @%$ to Galveston, Texas, right where that dirty water washed up on the beach, they can’t even get in the water.”
Well, the city of Galveston had a few things to say about that!
After the clip went viral on social media, dozens of billboards went up on I-45, throwing shots directly at Barkley.
On the digital billboards, the signs read, ‘Our water is cleaner than your golf swing’, and, ‘Hey Charles, you’ve never turned down any of our great food.’
Another one of the billboards read, ‘Hey Charles! Come on down - water’s fine. Love, Galveston.’
