As of Friday evening, HISD reports that:

  • 122 HISD campuses are still without power. There is currently no estimate for when power will be restored.
  • Minor tree and building damage is being addressed at all campuses.
  • Superintendent Miles visited Robinson, Paige, Sinclair, and Pugh Elementary Schools today. Despite current power outages and building damage, all four schools are expected to be able to serve students once electricity is restored.
  • The primary obstacle to reopening schools is the extensive power outages. HISD is collaborating with CenterPoint Energy and local officials to ensure safe school operations by Monday.

While the goal remains for all students to return to school on Monday, power must be restored first. In the meantime, proms and other school events scheduled for this weekend will proceed at the discretion of individual school principals.

Additionally, families in need of food can visit distribution sites at Sam Houston MSTC and Austin High School today, starting at 9 a.m.
