Flood safety tips

  • Turn around, don’t drown: Avoid driving on flooded roads. If you must drive and encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route.
  • Escape rising waters: If caught on a flooded road with rising water, exit your vehicle immediately and move to higher ground.
  • Stay informed: Keep tuned to local radio, NOAA radio, or news channels for updates. Be prepared to evacuate quickly if necessary and follow all evacuation orders.
  • Avoid floodwaters: Stay clear of floodwaters, which may conceal hazards like snakes, insects, and other animals.
  • Keep children and pets safe: Ensure they stay away from hazardous areas and floodwaters.
  • Beware of power lines: Avoid stepping in puddles or standing water near downed power lines.
