Help for Houston windstorm victims: Where to find food, shelter, and other services

Thursday’s storm has left Houston area residents without power for days and in need of assistance. Thankfully, loads of support networks and local organizations are stepping up to help those affected by the disaster.

Find out where victims of the Houston windstorm can find food, shelter, and other essential services.

Food

To support families recovering from severe weather last week, HISD and the Houston Food Bank will distribute free food and supplies at select Sunrise Centers on Monday and Tuesday. HISD will provide free food and cleaning supplies to 500 families.

May 21 beginning at 9 a.m.:

  • Youth Development Center Sunrise Center: 6050 Bretshire Dr.

The following distribution centers will offer ice and water at 10 a.m. and food at 2:30 p.m. to affected residents:

  • Radack Community Center: 18650 Clay Rd.
  • Weekley Community Center: 8440 Greenhouse Rd. in Cypress

The Spring Branch Boys and Girls Club will be the site of a distribution center opened by Commissioner Briones in collaboration with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston and the Houston Food Bank. Ice, water, fruit, and snacks will be provided by the Houston Food Bank.

  • Health services will be provided on-site by Spring Branch Community Health Center’s mobile clinic.
  • Distribution will take place from May 20 – May 22, from 10 a.m. – noon.

Houston Food Bank is providing products to the following locations:

  • Saint Joseph Catholic Church - distribution time TBD
  • Humble Area Assistance Ministries
  • Catholic Charities Jensen - 8-10 a.m. distribution time
  • HISD Sunrise Center - Brock Elementary - 10 a.m. distribution time
