KATY, Texas – In a time where there’s so much devastation and destruction to see, it’s rare to find a bright light amid the darkness.

That’s exactly what one family in the Katy area set out to do - be the bright spot in someone’s life.

The Stambolis Family never lost power from Thursday’s severe weather outbreak at their home nestled in the quiet cul-de-sac at the end of Valley Oaks Court.

Instead of enjoying their everyday amenities alone, the family decided to make a simple Facebook post inviting anyone without power to come over to cool off in their swimming pool, cook up some Texas BBQ and enjoy each other’s good company.

“It is an opportunity to be the light in the darkness and, just to let God get glory in the midst of everything going on and to have community and fellowship,” Amanda Stambolis said.

Little did she know that dozens of people would take her up on that offer.

“I guess maybe one, two, three, four, about five moms and some kids came. They some came for a little while, washed their clothes, cook some food, and then left,” she said. “And then a few people today asked if they could come back. And then word of mouth, some other people came. “We had quite a concoction of food. Everybody brought different food that they needed to cook before it thawed or went bad. And they just started barbecue food here and they shared.”

Complete strangers coming over for a backyard BBQ like they’ve been family friends for decades.

The whole family played games of Marco Polo with people they met less than an hour ago.

In a world where there’s so much bad, there’s something a lot of us can learn from The Stambolis Family.

Be kind to one another.
