HOUSTON – In the wake of last week’s devastating storms, thousands of Texans are struggling to rebuild their lives.
The storms, which brought severe flooding and damaging winds, have leftover 145,000 customers without power and damaged homes, businesses, schools, as well as vehicles across Southeast Texas.

President Joe Biden has signed a disaster declaration, enabling federal aid to flow into the affected areas.
Residents affected by the severe weather can apply for assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The quickest and simplest way to apply is online at DisasterAssistance.gov. For those who prefer, the FEMA app is also available for application submissions. Alternatively, people can call 800-621-3362 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT daily.
When applying for assistance, residents will need to provide essential information including their Social Security number, details of the damage, insurance information, a contact phone number, a mailing address, and banking details for direct deposit.
For those needing in-person help, FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance crews will be stationed at the Spring Branch Family Development Center in Houston starting May 21. These crews can assist with applications, answer questions, and provide information about available resources. No appointment is necessary. The center, located at 8575 Pitner Road in Houston, will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day.
City and county officials have also opened cooling centers, charging stations, and provided food and water to support residents during this challenging time. Thousands of utility workers are actively working to restore power and clear debris.
Impacted residents from Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, and Walker counties are encouraged to seek assistance promptly to expedite their recovery process.
