HOUSTON – It’s been a grueling week for all of Houston, especially first responders working to clean up the damage left behind by last week’s deadly windstorm—a.k.a. derecho. It also doesn’t help that they’ve had to work in the sweltering heat the last few days.

The last thing on these heroes’ minds is how dirty and sweaty their clothes have become, but that’s why popular laundry detergent company Tide is stepping in.
Starting Thursday, Tide Cleaners Texas says it will be providing free laundry and dry-cleaning services to front-line responders in the Houston area assisting with storm recovery efforts. This includes police officers, firefighters, electric utility workers, FEMA, essential retail workers, AND their immediate family members.
Guests can drop off one bag of clothes (equivalent to one 13-gallon trash bag) and drop it off at any of their participating Tide Cleaners. There is a limit of one bag per household and guests must show ID for proof of eligibility.
Those in need can drop off their laundry at any of the participating stores between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (or until they reach capacity) starting Thursday, May 23 through Saturday, June 1. There are more than 30 Tide Cleaner stores across the Greater Houston area including:
- Houston – Brian Forest, Woodway, Buffalo Speedway, Holcombe, Memorial, South Post Oak, South Shepherd
- The Woodlands – Alden’s Bridge, Cochran’s Crossing, Indian Springs, Market Street
- Spring – Lexington Wood, FM 2920, Rayford, Forestwood, Gleannloch
- Conroe
- Kingwood – Green Oak, Kingswood Crossing
- Sugarland – Dulles
- Magnolia – FM1488
- Summerwood
- Cypress – Tuckerton, Grand Road, Spring Cypress
- Katy – Mason Road, Cinco Ranch, Firethorne
- Bellaire
- Atascocita
- Tomball – Tomball, Creekside
- Pearland
According to a press release, Tide says it is doing this through its eponymous nonprofit, Tide Loads of Hope.
This is also not the first time Tide has assisted the Houston community. However, due to last week’s devastating windstorm that claimed 8 lives and took out nearly 1 million customers’ power, this simple act of providing clean clothes will hopefully restore a sense of normalcy.
Not to mention, it gives these first responders one less thing to worry about.
“The Houston community has been devastated by this historic storm. Tide Cleaners wants to support front-line responders and their families the best way we know how – with clean clothes,” Tide Cleaners Edit TX Franchisee, President Kyle Nesbit said in a statement. “We appreciate all of the hard work front-line responders have been doing and we thank them.”
