HOUSTON – It has been an active week in the weather department in the Houston area.

Tuesday featured a strong line of storms with damaging winds and hail and Wednesday also had some strong storms move through the area.

Another round of storms is possible Friday morning that could also be strong to severe with damaging winds being the primary threat.

Here is how it looks right now.

Friday storms:

A complex of storms that will develop this evening around Abilene will move southeast towards our area. Computer models show it entering some of our northern counties by 11 p.m. I do think these storms will probably be a few hours later than what the models are showing and could be as late as the 3-7 a.m. hours on Friday so take the times on these graphics with a grain of salt.

Storms look to impact the Houston metro area by early Friday morning. The main threat with this line of storms will be damaging winds. The tornado threat is non-zero. That is to say it is extremely low. However, whenever you have an intense line of storms like this with wind potential, you can’t ever completely rule out a tornado. Either way, damaging winds can cause just as many problems as tornadoes.

Storms should be exiting the Houston area to the east by early to mid-morning. As I stated earlier, take the timing with a grain of salt as this may be a bit later than what the models are saying right now. You’ll want to plan on extra time for the morning commute just in case.

Friday afternoon and Saturday storms:

After the line of storms comes through in the morning, there should be a break for a couple of hours. There is the potential of a few pop-up storms to redevelop across the area in the afternoon.

Computer models show another cluster of storms moving through the area sometime Saturday afternoon. The timing is a bit unclear right now so we will keep an eye on it and let you know when this could impact the area Saturday.

Overview:

  • A line of storms looks possible by early to mid-morning Friday.
  • The strongest storms will have the potential to produce damaging winds.
  • Redevelopment of pop-up storms looks possible Friday afternoon. Another cluster of storms is possible at some point Saturday afternoon.
