The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the woman was found at the Lafayette Village apartment complex located at 4822 E. Sam Houston Pkwy N. near Woodforest.

Sgt. Jason Brown with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division said around 2:30 p.m., they got the call from family members who had gone to the apartment to check on the woman. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez later identified her on X, formerly known as Twitter, as Latoya Fisher.

Brown said the family became concerned after not being able to reach Fisher for several days. They came to the apartment and broke a window to get inside. When they entered, they found her dead.

EMS and law enforcement were contacted and it was determined her death was a homicide.

“We know that she is deceased from what appears to be some type of trauma, but we’re not exactly sure how she died at this point,” Brown said.

Investigators are trying to piece together a timeline of what happened and who may have been at the apartment but said she appears to have been dead at least a day.

“She lives here at the location alone, except for her son so we’re in the process of trying to track him down and speak with him,” Brown said.

Her vehicle was also initially reported but later found abandoned, the Sheriff confirmed. Right now, there are no suspects in this case, but an investigation continues.
