As the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season begins, meteorologists have unveiled a new list of storm names.
The list of hurricane names has been updated from 2018, with “Florence” and “Michael” being retired. These names have been replaced by “Francine” and “Milton.”

With forecasts predicting an above-average season, the primary list of names might be exhausted.
In 2020, the Greek alphabet was used after the primary list of names was exhausted, but in 2021, the United Nations World Meteorological Organization decided to implement a secondary list instead.
The hurricane season begins June 1 each year and peak hurricane activity typically occurs from mid-August to mid-October.
