Moth seen by Caroline Brown (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

It’s bug season in Texas, and June Bugs are everywhere! Click2Pins has been flooded with photos of enormous insects.

KPRC 2 meteorologist Caroline Brown shared a photo of a huge moth she spotted at her house. Her brother identified it as a male Polyphemus moth due to the size of its antennae. With an average wingspan of 6 inches, this moth can flash its large purple “eyes,” which are actually spots on its hind wings. This mimicry is believed to resemble owl eyes, deterring birds from preying on it.
