When they arrived, they were met by an off-duty Precinct 5 deputy who told them about two women who were fighting in a vehicle and one of them, the driver, was emitting a strong odor of alcohol.
The driver, identified as Janea Vasquez, was interviewed by deputies and was found to have a slurred and slowed speech, bloodshot watery eyes and was unable to balance herself. After being interviewed, Vasquez allegedly admitted to having two tequila shots and beer before leaving a family party with her older sister and three children in the vehicle.
A field sobriety test was given and deputies said Vasquez performed poorly.
Inside the vehicle, deputies found multiple open and closed containers of beer that were cold to the touch.
Vasquez was taken into custody and brought to the Harris County Jail where she consented to provide breath samples that showed she was intoxicated nearly twice the legal limit.
After being briefed on the details, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted a charge of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age against Vasquez.
