In response to the positive sample, crews will begin evening spray operations in the area where the positive sample was found as well as in surrounding areas.
Spray operations will begin Tuesday evening at dusk to reduce the risk of the disease transmitted by infected mosquitos. The spray operations will continue for three consecutive nights, as weather permits, with ongoing surveillance of the area until there are no confirmed positive mosquito samples.
“After the recent rains and warmer first months of the year, we are seeing an increase in mosquito populations. We remind our residents to enjoy the outdoors but remember to protect themselves and their families from diseases transmitted by mosquitos,” said Dr. Gale-Lowe, FBCHHS Director and Local Health Authority.
The news from Fort Bend County comes nearly two weeks after Harris County reported its first confirmed sample of West Nile Virus in a mosquito. In that case, the positive sample was collected from a mosquito trapping site inside Loop 610 in Houston, Zip Code 77019.
