Houston Mayor John Whitmire and the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Advisory Board are hosting a press conference to address the launch of the AAPI National Convention in Houston.
The purpose of the AAPI board is to ensure that the voices and concerns of the AAPI community are included throughout Houston and in the city’s decisions.

The announcement was at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Houston City Hall.
Whitmire said he is hoping to bring more diversity to all levels of government throughout the city.
“We haven’t made enough changes, but we’re doing the best we can,” Whitmire said.
