‘We are trying to be strong’: Family speaks out after League City woman found hanging

2 people of interest have been identified but no arrests have been made

League City police are investigating the death of a mother of four who was found hanged last month. They are now saying they suspect foul play.

Investigators said they grew suspicious due to the unusual positioning of Giselle Salazar’s body. They said one of her arms was hanging upright with nothing holding it up.

Detectives believe Giselle passed away in another location with her arm raised, which then stiffened due to rigor mortis. They suspect she was then moved and positioned in the hanging position off the dock.

“There’s no way that my sister would do that,” said Esperanza Alegria, Salazar’s sister.

Detectives are still waiting for the Medical Examiner’s office to determine the exact cause of death.

“We wish all this was just a bad dream, and it wasn’t her,” Alegria said.

Detectives have identified two people of interest, but no charges have been filed. The League City Police Department has reviewed close to 2,000 security video clips, ranging from a few seconds to several minutes long, in their investigation.

“Please help and come forward, just do the right thing, just so we can have closure and my sister can rest in peace,” Alegria said.

Who is Giselle Salazar?

Giselle Salazar’s family continues to mourn the loss of the 30-year-old mother of four, who was found hanging from a dock in League City on June 4, 2024. Giselle had moved to League City in the fall of 2022 to escape an abusive relationship in Colorado, where she had lived for eight years.

Giselle’s family describes her as the most charismatic person you’d ever meet. Her brother Nathan Paz, who she and her children moved in with, said, “She was always looking for the best in people.”

Now, Nathan and their mother face the challenge of breaking the news to Giselle’s three youngest children before Sunday’s funeral and finding the resources to raise her 10, 8, and 6-year-old kids. Giselle’s oldest child lives with their father.

A GoFundMe page titled ‘In Loving Memory of Giselle’ has been set up to help cover funeral expenses and support the care of her children.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the League City Police Department at 281-332-2566.
