Kathy Philipp Tziuliou, who owns a cat rescue called ‘Gondolania Ice Arena: Kitty Katz’ in Qatar, contacted HHS because of their “renowned reputation for outstanding and compassionate care.”
Qatar has a high stray cat population, with estimations there are between 2 and 3 million strays in the country. The issues are largely caused by poor and limited access to spaying and neutering services.
The animals arrived in Houston on June 9, flying into George Bush Intercontinental Airport. After arriving at the Humane Society, they underwent precautionary screening. After a 10-day quarantine period, these furry friends will be available to adopt.
“Houston Humane Society is grateful to Tzouliou for choosing the nonprofit and is dedicated to providing safe shelter for these cats, giving them a better chance at finding the loving forever homes they deserve,” the Humane society said in a statement.
To fight the overpopulation of stray cats, the Houston Humane Society Wellness Clinic is inviting cat owners to take advantage of its $80 spay and neuter promotion every Monday and Thursday for the rest of the month.
