Preventative drowning measures Houston residents can take when swimming

HOUSTON – A teenage girl died Wednesday after a reported drowning at a community pool in west Harris County.

It happened on Green Crest Dr. near West Park Dr. and Hwy 6. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that deputies were called to the scene and found the teenager, believed to be about 15-years-old unresponsive.

She was rushed to the hospital in serious condition, but the Sheriff confirmed in a subsequent post she did not survive.

The unidentified teen’s death is sadly one of the dozens of drowning-related deaths KPRC 2 has covered already this year. One of the most harrowing stories we covered was about a little girl named Aliyah Jaico, who was “violently sucked” into a pipe at a northwest Houston hotel.

That’s why we’re reminding folks of preventative measures they can take, especially as more people plan to hit the waters this summer.

Here are some helpful links to stories KPRC 2 has covered including swimming lessons in the Greater Houston area or if you can swim, the city could use some lifeguards:
