Lance Berkman makes fan’s day with HCU first pitch

Ahead of Houston Christian University’s game against Incarnate Word on May 16, then-head baseball coach Lance Berkman found time to give a young fan a lifetime memory.

HCU held an auction with proceeds going towards its scholarship fund. The winner was Brittney Ford, an alum of the school. Rather than throw the pitch herself, she had some help from Parker, her 9-year-old son.

Parker stepped up to the plate and delivered a pitch into Berkman’s glove. After an applause from the crowd, Berkman signed the baseball and gave it to the young fan.

“This was a great opportunity to support the alumni scholarship fund with this auction winner,” Berkman said after the pitch. “I mean, it’s always fun to see a young guy out here, a big baseball fan having a good time at the game.”

The Huskies went on to beat the Cardinals, 4-2.
