HOUSTON – D’Anthony Simms Coleman, 23, walked into the courtroom Monday morning handcuffed and wearing an orange jumpsuit, making his first court appearance.
Coleman is facing charges of first-degree felony aggravated assault of a peace officer. It all started on Friday when Pct. 4 Harris County Deputy Deteryon Fontonet saw Coleman’s vehicle after he allegedly robbed two Academy Sports and Outdoors stores using a fully automatic AR-15 pistol.

When Coleman refused to surrender, a car chase began and ended in Spring. Officials say that’s when Coleman got out of the car and shot at Deputy Fontonet before fleeing into a relative’s house.
KPRC2′s Re’Chelle Turner was inside the courtroom Monday morning and spoke with the prosecutor.
The hearing lasted about five minutes, and during that time, the judge heard probable cause and read Coleman’s bond conditions. They include no contact with law enforcement, and he cannot possess any weapons. Coleman also cannot consume any drugs or alcohol and must wear an ankle monitor if he posts bond.
“The officer did sustain injuries that were thankfully not life-threatening. What’s next is we’re going to wait for all the evidence to come in,” Cody Kelemen, Assistant District Attorney said. “Any crime, we will always prosecute based upon the evidence at hand, no matter how small, whether it’s a misdemeanor or all the way to a capital murder. With this being an officer-involved shooting, where you have an officer that is a victim, there’s of course going to be even more investigation, like scene scans and things like that. So, we have to wait for all that to come in to make sure that our office is proceeding with the evidence and make correct decisions at that time.”
At last check, Deputy Fontonet still has bullet fragments in three different locations in his body. He is at home resting. Coleman’s bond is still set at $150,000. His next court hearing has not been set.
