CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas – Authorities in Chambers County say the body of a missing 44-year-old woman was found during a search Thursday.

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office said Elizabeth Nivans was last seen at approximately 7 p.m. on June 2, walking east on the Interstate 10 service road away from the Houston East RV Park.

Surveillance video then showed Nivans walking south on Needlepoint Road towards Kilgore Parkway.

The sheriff’s office said she left her RV without any of her belongings and has not been seen or heard from since.

After meeting with Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR) personnel, a plan was put in place to search for Nivans.

“Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division have spent many days examining digital forensic evidence and surveillance video to narrow down the last known location of Nivans, which was determined to be the 19500 block of Old Needlepoint Road,” the sheriff’s office said. “With this data, TEXSAR personnel developed a search area based on missing person trends known to them. Detectives and Deputies have spent hours searching the area on foot, with ATV’s, and with aerial drones. TEXSAR provided Sheriff’s Deputies with numerous additional search personnel as well as K-9 cadaver dogs, aerial drones, and forensic digital analysis.”

The sheriff’s office said Nivan’s body was found in the search area Thursday.

“Justice of the Peace Larry Cryer responded to the scene and has ordered an autopsy be performed. This is an ongoing investigation,” the sheriff’s office said.
