HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – After hours of burning, a fire at a northeast Harris County recycling facility has been extinguished.
The fire happened at Prestige Auto and Metal Recycling located at 7615 East Mount Houston Road. It was first reported around 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Eastex Fire Department said they along with 14 other agencies from Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery County worked through the night to extinguish the fire.
At approximately 4 a.m. Sunday, all mutual aid was released and the Eastex Fire Department worked to monitor for any hot spots and sift through scrap metal.
At 7 a.m., the department cleared the scene.
“During the incident 6 firefighters and 1 civilian were evaluated for heat related issues, 4 firefighters and the civilian were transported to the hospital, treated and released, 1 firefighter was admitted for further evaluation,” the fire department said.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated and the department said it could last for days.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to all our mutual aid partners and the crane operators that worked the nearly 20 hour incident. Additionally, thank you to Metro for sending a requested bus for a cooling area for firefighters to rehab,” the department said.
