HOUSTON – A man has died and a woman was seriously injured Sunday night after a high-speed crash in northwest Houston.

It happened on Gessner & Tanner off Sam Houston Tollway near Hwy 290 around 10 p.m. That’s when authorities say the driver, an unidentified man, was going at a high rate of speed when he lost control and crossed over the median, causing the vehicle to flip several times.

Houston police said the driver was ejected from his vehicle during the crash and died at the scene. Meanwhile, firefighters had to extricate a woman, sitting in the passenger seat, and took her to a local trauma center in serious condition.

Speed appears to be the only factor and no additional vehicles seemed to be involved in this crash.

No additional details were shared, but an investigation continues as police gather more information.
