BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – An investigation is underway into a bizarre series of events which took place late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning in Brazoria County.

The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office says it all started just after midnight after a suspect was dropped off by a Lyft driver in Rosharon. The suspect threw a brick at the driver’s car before stealing a vehicle and following another driver.

The sheriff’s office said after some time of following, the suspect fired shots at the vehicle he was following in the Suncreek Estates subdivision. No one was hurt in this shooting.

After fleeing the scene of the first shooting, the suspect fired shots at another vehicle, injuring both the driver and passenger. Both victims were flown to a hospital for medical attention.

The sheriff’s office said the two people’s injuries were serious, but not considered life-threatening.

It is not know why the suspect was following the vehicles.

The incidents all happened between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.

The sheriff’s office released a photo of the vehicle involved in the shootings. The vehicle appears to be a black Nissan Rogue.

Later Wednesday, the sheriff’s office identified a suspect in the shootings as 26-year-old Juan Mata.

“He has connections to the Richmond, Missouri City, and Rosharon areas. While we hope that he turns himself in, if a member of our community does see Mata we urge them to call 9-1-1 immediately. Do not approach Mata, he is considered armed and dangerous,” the sheriff’s office said.
