Motorcyclist dies after high-speed chase with South Houston Police

A motorcyclist is dead after leading police officers on a chase late last night near the Gulf Freeway and 610 in the city of South Houston.

The incident happened just after 11 p.m. when South Houston police attempted to pull over a motorcyclist for speeding. The rider refused to stop, initiating a brief pursuit.

Officers chased the motorcyclist northbound on the Gulf Freeway, but the pursuit was terminated just south of the Loop due to the high speed. However, officers in the area witnessed the rider taking the transition ramp from 45 to westbound 610.

The motorcyclist hit a guardrail on the transition ramp and was thrown from the bike, falling onto the main lanes of the southbound Gulf Freeway below.

The motorcycle continued without its rider, eventually coming to a stop near Woodridge and the 610 feeder road.

South Houston police officers located the rider on the freeway below and immediately began life-saving measures until Houston Fire Department personnel arrived and took over. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by HFD.

Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division is conducting a parallel investigation with South Houston Police.

The identity of the motorcyclist has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
