Teen on electric scooter strikes HPD patrol car in downtown Houston

A 16-year-old is recovering in the hospital after crashing into a police vehicle while riding an electric scooter last night, according to the Houston Police Department.

The incident happened just after 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Crawford and Rusk Streets in downtown Houston. Police reported that the HPD Downtown unit was traveling through the intersection with a green light when the teen struck the patrol car.

The collision caused the scooter to be dragged under the vehicle, and the teen went over the hood. The 16-year-old began vomiting for an extended period before the Houston Fire Department arrived. He was transported in critical condition to a local trauma center, where he is expected to survive.

The officer involved in the incident was not injured. Authorities noted that there are numerous cameras in the area and are reviewing footage as part of their investigation.
