It happened a little after 9 p.m. on the Hardy feeder road at Tidwell, where Houston police say an unidentified man driving a truck was speeding and swerving in and out of traffic beforehand.

When responding officers got to the crash scene, they said it appeared the driver somehow left the roadway and hit a brick mailbox, then a utility line before crashing into the side of a church. CenterPoint Energy was also called out to the scene due to power outages resulting from the crash.

The driver, who was the only person inside the truck, was ejected due to the impact and died at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, but police shut down the feeder’s northbound lanes for hours while crews investigated and cleaned up the wreckage.
