One particular area of concern is Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, where the resort city of Cancun is located.

With summer in full swing, many tourists and vacationers may have plans to travel to Cancun, and with Beryl approaching, some people may have concerns about what to do if they need to cancel plans to the area.

Here is what you need to do:

Flights

First things first, get in touch with your airline.

All airlines allow people to cancel flights, and many allow people to get a refund or flight credit, depending on the type of ticket you purchased.

Be sure to know whether you booked a nonrefundable fare. While you won’t get any money back, you should receive a credit or some type of voucher for a future flight.

Hotels

Next step, make sure you get in touch with any hotels or resorts you had booked to stay.

Each hotel will have a different cancelation policy and may have certain fees associated with it. They may also be willing to rebook you for a different date.

Cruise lines

If you were planning on a cruise to the area, check with your cruise lines.

Many of them normally charge a fee to cancel, but you may get some money back if it is due to a hurricane or natural disaster.

Every cruise line is different though, so be sure to check in with them directly.

Travel Insurance

It is highly recommended you purchase travel insurance prior to any big trip you are planning to go on.

Travel insurance can reimburse you for any unexpected cancelations or delays your trip may experience
