According to Houston police, officers were called to the scene on I-45 heading northbound under Quitman around 11:30 p.m. Based on preliminary information, an unidentified driver in a Chevy Cruze went across lanes and hit a center divider before getting hit by a tow truck.

The tow truck driver was not injured, but police rushed the Chevy Cruze driver to a hospital, where they died from their injuries. Officials also suspected the driver to be impaired.

The roadway was shut down for several hours because of the crash, while crews were cleaning up the wreckage. At some point during the closures, police said a DWI driver hit a Houston PD patrol car blocking the eastbound Katy Freeway’s transition ramp to I-45 N. No one was injured from that crash.
No additional information has been shared, as of this writing, but an investigation continues.
