Fourth of July 2024 in Houston: These streets will be closed during Shell Freedom Over Texas

HOUSTON – Don’t celebrate the Fourth of July sitting in traffic or looking for a place to park!

Before you hit the road for Independence Day celebrations, make sure you are aware of which streets will be closed during Shell Freedom Over Texas celebrations.

Here’s a list of dates and times with street closures during Shell Freedom Over Texas through Thursday, July 4 from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.

BUFFALO BAYOU & ELEANOR TINSLEY PARKS TRAIL CLOSURES

SUNDAY, JUNE 30 through FRIDAY, JULY 5

The Hike & Bike Trails along Allen Parkway and Buffalo Bayou Park between Bagby and Taft will be closed to walkers, runners, and bikers. They are encouraged to use nearby trails.

  • The Hike & Bike Trail on the north bank of Buffalo Bayou Park, next to the Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark from the Sabine Bridge to east of the Mithoff Family Grove (“Passage Inachevé” by Linnea Glatt and Francis Thompson aka The French House) will be closed to walkers, runners, and bikers. They are encouraged to use nearby trails.

EVENT STREET CLOSURES

TUESDAY, JULY 2, 7:00 A.M. – FRIDAY, JULY 5, 5:00 A.M.

  • Allen Parkway north and southbound exit ramps from I-45 (South and North Freeways)
  • Allen Parkway outbound at Bagby • Allen Parkway inbound at Taft
  • (No access to I-45 S/Heiner/Crosby until 5:00 P.M. on FRIDAY, JULY 5)
  • Sabine Street at Memorial Drive & at the Bridge
  • Sabine Street at Bridge, blocking southbound traffic to Allen Parkway
  • Gillette Street (mid-block) by Federal building (after apartment entrance)
  • Walker & Sabine access blocked to Allen Parkway and Sabine Street.
  • I-45 North on-ramp and the loop to McKinney remains open
  • Crosby Street at W. Dallas Street
  • Heiner Street at W. Dallas Street
  • Heiner St. will remain closed from Allen Parkway to W. Dallas St. until 5:00 p.m. on 7/5/2024

THURSDAY, JULY 4, 8:00 A.M. – 11:00 P.M.

  • Bagby northbound at Dallas
  • Lamar between Smith and Bagby
  • Brazos St. at Dallas

THURSDAY, JULY 4, 3:00 P.M – 11:00 P.M

  • Bagby southbound at Rusk

THURSDAY, JULY 4, 5:00 P.M. – 10:30 P.M.

  • Sawyer Street at Washington Avenue • Allen Parkway inbound at Waugh
  • Allen Parkway Service Road at Montrose Boulevard (access to residents at all times)
  • Memorial Drive inbound at Waugh Drive
  • Memorial Drive outbound at Bagby

THURSDAY, JULY 4, 9:00 P.M. – 10:00 P.M. (SHELL Fireworks Display)

  • Sabine Street between Allen Parkway and Memorial Drive

***The Buffalo Bayou Waterway will be closed on THURSDAY, JULY 4, from 4:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. between the Capitol Street Bridge and Montrose Boulevard / Studemont Street.
