It happened on Sunday, June 30 when officers with the Houston Police Department were called around 2:30 a.m. at the 9100 block of Fondren. When they arrived, police said they found a 13-year-old shot in the stomach.

The 15-year-old shooter was not identified due to him being a minor. However, police confirmed he is facing manslaughter charges. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office tells KPRC 2 reporter Corley Peel the teenager used an AR-15 but it’s unclear where he got the weapon.

He initially told police he threw the gun in the bayou after the shooting, however, that was revealed to be not true because officers found it in a drainage pipe in the opposite direction.

KPRC 2′s Corley Peel will be speaking with the 13-year-old victim’s mother and Young People in Action about resources to help children steer away from violence in a full report later tonight.

This is a developing story, and we will keep you posted with the latest information as we get it.
