ROSENBERG, Texas – A man who was involved in a standoff with a SWAT team at a hotel in Rosenberg is accused of flooding the entire hotel during the standoff, causing potentially millions of dollars in damages.

The Rosenberg Police Department said on Friday, June 28, officers responded to a reported robbery at the Motel 6 located at 27927 Southwest Freeway.

When officers arrived, Landon Blayne Hutchins, 46, of Gonzales, made threats against them and barricaded himself in a room. Hutchins claimed to have multiple firearms and a child hostage.

“While officers assessed the situation and evacuated hotel residents and staff, Hutchins began to cause extensive damage to his room. Throughout the incident he continued to damage his room and ultimately flooded the entire hotel,” the department said.

The Fort Bend Regional SWAT Team responded to the scene and determined Hutchins was not holding a child hostage and he refused to cooperate with negotiators.

SWAT members forcibly entered the room and took Hutchins into custody.

The department said initial estimates show that Hutchins may have caused more than $3 million in damage to the hotel.

He was charged with terroristic threat against a peace officer, arson, and criminal mischief greater than $300K.
